Prayer Night
What and when is it? A weekly gathering for prayer and worship from 9pm – midnight.
Why? We want to join in with what God is doing.
What is God doing? In Hackney, hundreds of young people stay up all night to pray and seek God. Al Gordon writes “I’ve never seen anything like it. There’s a remarkable sense of consecrating love setting apart the young, calling them to holiness.”
A few weeks ago in Trafalgar Square thousands gather to hear the gospel. Many are healed and saved. Evangelist Daniel Chand sums it up in one word: “Historic.” St Aldates, Oxford is overflowing. So many young people give their lives to Christ they lose count. Rev. Steven Foster says: “It broke our systems. From the start of the service it felt like literally anything could happen and probably would. It was mostly Gen Z responding but also prison leavers and people in recovery.”
Over Easter 2024
- many churches reported bumper attendances.
- 12000 were baptised in France one of the most secular nations on earth
- 419 were baptised by our friends at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.
- 469 gave their lives to Christ at Audacious church in Manchester
- 116 got saved at Soul Church in Norwich
Meanwhile - beyond events, programmes, conferences and successful services - the long-term societal markers are also shifting.
- Public intellectuals from Tom Holland to Jordan Peterson to Ayaan Hirsi Ali are arguing for faith in God.
- Influencers with millions of followers are professing faith - some even getting baptised.
- Columns in the Wall Street Journal and the London Times are reporting a return to religion amongst the young. The Spectator even using the (over-excited) headline ‘Revival’.
- More than 7000 school classrooms have now been turned into prayer rooms thanks to Prayer Spaces in Schools
Now if you’re reading this and thinking ‘it doesn’t feel like it,’ all I can say is this: Pray! It doesn’t matter how small the spark, if you pour petrol on it you can start a fire. At St Peter’s we are seeing God move in a powerful way, healings, deliverance, holy laughter, and dancing in our services! We’re seeing the start of something significant and we want in on what God is doing We’re hearing the call of God to up our prayer game, to be radical (hence the time and length of the meeting) to come to Him in prayer and to seek His face. To fix our attention on Him and go where goes, do what He does, and say what He says!
Joel 2 and Acts 2 both state that when we turn to God with repentant hearts, with fasting and prayer, this will happen:
‘God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
What about One Heart?
We are pausing One Heart for June, but it will be back!
What next?
Come and join us on Monday Nights and let’s see what is possible when God’s people gather together with One Heart, to seek first His Kingdom!
